Henderson Adds Art Exhibition to WinterFest Celebration

Henderson, Nev. WinterFest, the City of Henderson’s annual holiday celebration, will look sharp with the addition of an art exhibition. The display, which is of prickly proportions, will feature five large cactus sculptures. The city is currently seeking artists to decorate the botanical statues for the holiday event.
Artists chosen for this public art display will spend Dec. 9, during WinterFest, decorating the cactus, each standing at 4-feet tall. The design must incorporate this year’s theme, “Dazzling Desert Holidays,” and can be created using any art medium. The completed cactus garden will remain on display until the conclusion of WinterFest. Afterwards, the cacti will move to Valley View, Whitney Ranch, Black Mountain and Silver Springs recreation centers, as well as the Henderson Mulitigenerational Center.
Applications, along with a letter of interest and images of past work, must be submitted to Chuck Ashby by 5 p.m. on Nov. 17. Submissions can also be mailed to the Outdoor Recreation division of the City of Henderson Public Works, Parks and Recreation Department, 105 W. Basic Rd., Henderson, Nevada, 89015.
Selected artists will receive compensation up to $500 for preparation and painting, including all supplies and travel expenses. Artists will be notified by Nov. 23.
