The Southern Nevada Sons & Daughters of Erin have kept the Irish heritage alive in Southern Nevada for more than half of a century. Not only does the St. Patrick’s Day event share Irish traditions and culture with the community, it also is one of the organization’s largest fundraisers, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which is dedicated to funding childhood cancer research.
This year’s event features festivities for people of all ages and interests. The family-friendly event includes a carnival, car show and festival, complete with live performances by Irish bands and Celtic dancers. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation head shaving fundraiser will be held at 5 p.m. on March 11 during the festival. Men, women and children can participate in the charity fundraiser by joining the Southern Nevada Sons & Daughters of Erin team or creating their own team.
The parade, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. on March 11, is one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the region. It features more than 100 colorful entries, festive floats and community groups. Organizers are accepting parade applications through Feb. 10. Registration is $50 per entry. The parade application is available on the club’s website, snsdoe.com.
