Henderson Pavilion Celebrates 15-Year Anniversary with Concert by Greensky Bluegrass
Henderson, Nev. – Opened in September 2002, the Henderson Pavilion will celebrate 15 years of music and performing arts with a concert by Greensky Bluegrass next month. The show is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sept. 15 at the outdoor amphitheater, which is located at 200 S. Green Valley Pkwy. Tickets start at $15 per person.
The Michigan-formed jamgrass band has created its own version of bluegrass music, mixing the acoustic stomp of a string band with the spirit of rock and roll. The group, which consists of mandolin player Paul Hoffman, guitarist Dave Bruzza, dobro player Anders Beck, banjoist Michael Arlen Bont and upright bassist Mike Devol, has been touring for 17 years, playing as many as 175 shows a year.
“We play two sets of music every night with a big light show, and really care about creating a large-scale production,” says Bruzza. “The goal is not just to play important music. We want to cultivate an experience, where people can escape from their everyday lives for a minute and put their worries aside.”
Greensky Bluegrass has performed for thousands of people across the country. In fact, the band has headlined some of the nation’s most iconic concert venues, performing to sold-out crowds at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and the Ryman Auditorium. The band has also played such major festivals as Bonnaroo, New Orleans Jazz Festival and Austin City Limits. Other accomplishments include 2014’s If Sorrows Swim album reaching No. 1 on the Billboard bluegrass chart and releasing its sixth studio album, Shouted, Written Down & Quoted, last year.
Discussing Shouted, Written Down & Quoted, Bruzza states, “We are trying to explore the textures and sounds we can make, while still having the instrumentation of a bluegrass band. We will run a dobro though an amp on a song like ‘Past My Prime.’ This album is a crazy carnival one minute, and it is a psychedelic Pink Floyd jam the next.”
Greensky Bluegrass’s performance is the official Henderson Pavilion 15-year anniversary concert. It is also a part of the 15th anniversary season, which includes Hairball, a celebration of arena rock, on Sept. 8; season opener for the Henderson Symphony Orchestra on Sept. 16; Get the Led Out, the American Led Zeppelin, on Oct. 7; Grammy Award-winning trio Wilson Phillips on Oct. 13; Air 1 Positive Hits Tour featuring Skillet, produced and promoted by Awakening Events, Inc., on Oct. 14; and Henderson Symphony Orchestra on Oct. 20. Ticket prices vary for each show.
