Liz Hernandez Named Henderson Destination Champion Award Recipient
Henderson, Nev. – In anticipation of National Travel and Tourism Week, Mayor Andy Hafen and members of the Henderson City Council presented Liz Hernandez, Director of Sales at Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton in Henderson, with the Destination Champion Award at the May 2 city council meeting. Hernandez became the ninth recipient of the award, which encourages excellence in the Henderson hospitality community.
The City of Henderson Economic Development and Tourism Department recognizes one outstanding hotel sales professional each year as the destination champion for their commitment to promoting and enhancing awareness of Henderson as a premier destination for both leisure and business visitors. Nominees are evaluated on their performance in a variety of areas, including participation in and support of the city’s efforts to promote the Henderson destination and demonstration of outstanding customer service and creative approaches to sales.
“Liz has always been a huge champion of Henderson. She has long supported economic development and tourism, steering business to our city at every opportunity,” said Barbra Coffee, Director of the City of Henderson Economic Development and Tourism Department. “This award is about honoring a hospitality ambassador that promotes Henderson as a first-class tourist destination, and there is no one more deserving than Liz.”
Hernandez, who has served as both national sales manager and director of sales at a number of properties in Southern Nevada, was recognized for her exceptional service, including supporting stakeholder outreach; consistently responding quickly to information and service requests; working directly with the city’s Economic Development and Tourism Department on group sales requests for proposals, information requests and hotel reservations; and taking an active role in programs organized by the city’s Economic Development and Tourism Department.
Hernandez is an active member of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce as well as other community organizations. She also supports businesses on Water Street, including the City Lights Art Gallery and Firelight Barn dinner theater.
Tuesday’s Destination Champion Award presentation was held as a precursor to National Travel and Tourism Week, which is May 7 through May 13. Now in its 34th year, the annual celebration unites communities across the country to celebrate what travel means to American jobs, economic growth and personal well-being.
