Seniors Sought for National Youth Science Camp Honors

A Nevada Department of Education Committee will select two Nevada high school seniors to participate in the National Youth Science Camp (NYSC) that will include hands-on research projects presented by scientists from across the nation, overnight camping trips into the Monongahela National Forest and a visit to Washington D.C.

“If you excel in math and science and want a glimpse at what a career in these fields might entail, this is your chance,” said Steve Canavero, Ph.D., Superintendent of Public Instruction. “We are looking for the future innovation leaders of Nevada’s new economy, students who are socially mature and are well-rounded. Two very accomplished students will receive a full scholarship to exchange ideas with scientists and other professionals from the academic and corporate worlds.”

The NYSC experience is offered at no cost to its participants. Educational and recreational programming, as well as meals, lodging, and round-trip airfare are provided. Delegates arrive in Charleston, West Virginia, on Wednesday, June 27, and depart on Saturday, July 21. The NYSC is held near Bartow in the eastern mountains of West Virginia, within the Monongahela National Forest.
