Two CCSD schools named National Blue Ribbon Schools

Two Clark County School District schools –- Sandra Lee Thompson and Shirley and Bill Wallin Elementary Schools — were recently honored by the U.S Department of Education (DOE) as National Blue Ribbon Schools. The award is based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. This year, the DOE selected only 342 public and private schools nationwide as National Blue Ribbon Schools for the 2017-18 school year.
The selections also mark the ninth consecutive year that CCSD had at least one school chosen for this prestigious honor. Although some CCSD schools have received the designation multiple times, both of the schools that were selected this year are first-time recipients of the award. With the two new schools receiving the designation, this marks the 26th time a CCSD school has been selected as a Blue Ribbon School since the program was established by the Department of Education (DOE) in 1982.
“It is truly an honor to have two of our schools selected among the best in the nation,” said CCSD Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky. “This Blue Ribbon School designation speaks to the amazing work and dedication of our teachers, school staff, students and their parents.”
