Special City Council Meeting on Ward 2 Vacancy to be Held June 15 at 10 a.m.
Henderson, Nev – The Henderson City Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday, June 15 at 10 a.m. to continue the process of filling the Ward 2 vacancy that will be created when Councilwoman Debra March assumes the position of Mayor. The meeting, which will take place in the City Council Chambers at 240 Water St., is open to the public and will also be available for viewing online via livestream at cityofhenderson.com.
Three finalists for the Ward 2 seat were selected from among the initial pool of nine applicants who sought the appointment. Mayor and Council reviewed each application and submitted names for consideration as finalists directly to the City Clerk. Those chosen as finalists through this process were Orlando L. Sanchez, Dan Shaw and Bill Bokelmann.
Each finalist will give a three minute presentation to the City Council and will then participate in an interview segment consisting of five questions that will be posed by the Mayor and Councilmembers. This will be followed by a question and answer period. Upon conclusion of the question and answer period, finalists will be given two minutes to offer a closing statement.
The City Council has the option to select one of the finalists to fill the position of Ward 2 Councilmember at its regular June 20 Council meeting.
The Ward 2 vacancy will be created when current Councilwoman Debra March is sworn-in as Mayor of Henderson on June 20. The City Council must fill the vacancy within 60 days of Councilwoman March’s swearing-in as Mayor. The individual selected will fill the remainder of Councilwoman March’s term, which ends in June 2019.
Eligible finalists must have been a Henderson resident for 12 months prior to the end of the filing period (which closed May 25), have lived in Ward 2 for at least 30 days prior to the end of the filing period and be a registered voter.
