Ho’olaule’a Pacific Islands Festival Returns to Henderson
Henderson, Nev. – There is no time to lei around. Plans for the annual Ho’olaule’a Pacific Islands Festival have been announced. The event returns to Henderson next month, with festivities planned from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 9 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 10 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St. Admission is free.
Founded and organized by the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club (LVHCC), the event serves Southern Nevada’s vast Pacific Islander population. Since moving to Henderson in 2007, the celebration, which is in its twenty-seventh year, has grown into one of the largest island festivals in the valley. Ho’olaule’a, allows island transplants the opportunity to share the rich heritage and culture of the Hawaiian Islands with fellow native islanders, islanders-at-heart and the rest of the community.
This year’s celebration features a variety of traditional island entertainment, including Polynesian dancers and Hawaiian hula dancing, and popular island food, as well as new features like a Spam musubi eating contest and a sun god look-a-like contest. The two-day festival also includes crafts, fine art displays, workshops and merchandise vendors. A car show, which will be held on Water Street from Basic Road to Atlantic Avenue, and an indoor career, business and health fair are other event highlights.
The Ho’olaule’a Pacific Islands Festival is one of the club’s largest annual fundraisers. A portion of event proceeds will benefit LVHCC scholarship programs.
